Terms and Conditions for Instrumental Lessons.
• After initial payment, all future payments should always be made half a term in advance. Please note that no additional letters or reminders are sent out for this purpose and payments should be made automatically each term. Cheques should be made payable to Hampshire County Council and you should write your child’s name and the instrument that payment refers to, clearly on the back. This is particularly important where both parties do not share the same name.
• Pupils who wish to have lessons once the term has commenced may only start at the beginning of each half term. Lessons in this instance will be charged 50% of the fees for that term.
• Please note that due to many difficulties in collecting fees for lessons, no pupil will be permitted to receive lessons until payment is received. Please contact the school office well in advance if there are any difficulties, so that they can help.
• Payment cards will be issued to all new learners so that your payment is recorded for you to see.
• Half a term’s written notice is required if your child wishes to terminate lessons. If we do not receive written notice, you will be charged half a term’s fees. Fees will then continue to be charged until we have received such notice. All written correspondence to this effect should be taken to the school office. Please note that we will assume you wish to continue with lessons if we do not receive written confirmation to the contrary.
• It is the responsibility of pupils to check the time of their lesson or to see me if there is any query. No recompense can be made for missed lessons for what is judged to be an unacceptable excuse and pupils who regularly waste valuable teaching time in this way may find that their lesson time is given to another pupil.
• All pupils receiving lessons at school are expected to ‘give back’ something to the school by attending one of the instrumental or vocal groups. These are usually after school hours or during breaks and therefore require a high level of commitment. All pupils are also expected to take part or at least support some of the concerts and recitals held in the Music department throughout the year. Please ensure that you are able to make this commitment.
• Please note that all pupils who take up instrumental or vocal lessons should expect to do a regular amount of practice. Any specific detail in relation to this is given to your child by the instrumental/vocal teacher during the course of a lesson and a written record of practice will be kept.
• Apart from parents receiving a full report on their child’s progress at the end of each academic year, interim reports will also help parents to monitor general progress throughout the year in terms of attendance, preparation, practice and effort etc. Please also feel free to call me at the school should you wish to know how your child is progressing with lessons at any time during the course of a term.
