Devising Plays
|
In
this unit you will look at different starting points for creating
a piece of drama, including music, poetry and art. You will take
part in two performances of your own devised work.
You will be required to look at ways of communicating with an audience
and to understand a range of drama techniques.
Areas of study include:
Trust games, character development skills, starting points, rehearsal
skills and communication skills.

Performing
Music
|
|
This
is your chance to show off what you can do! In this unit you will
work on developing your skills and technique on your chosen instrument,
leading up to a performance at the end of the module. You will
have the chance to perform in both solo and ensemble situations
and will have a big input into the choice of material.
This
unit will require you to think about ways of communicating with
your audience and you will look at ways of dealing with performance
nerves.
Areas
of study include:
Vocal
techniques, warm up exercises, performance skills, performance
nerves, creating an effective programme and preparation techniques.

Music Theatre
|
|
This
unit is one for the performers! You will get the chance to learn
songs, storylines and stage movement from various different musicals
and look at the way the musical has developed from early Music
Hall, through Vaudeville and Gilbert and Sullivan to the present
day.
You
will also study the libretto and songs from a musical and then
take a leading role in a performance of this show.

Production Project
|
|
This
unit is worth double marks and takes up most of Year 11. You will
take part in a full-scale production applying all the skills and
knowledge acquired in previous units. You are required to work
as part of a team to provide administration and marketing for the
performance. The final piece will be externally assessed by a visiting
examiner.
Areas
of study include:
Sources
of funding, budgets, audience profiles, publicity material, developing
a character and performance skills.

Performing
Arts Business
|
The
Performing Arts business includes a multitude of jobs, many of
which you have probably never thought of. In this unit you will
look at the job structure within a large performing arts company
and meet some of their staff. You will also find out how projects
are funded and create a project of your own with a budget of your
choice (only on paper!!!!).
The
unit will introduce you to the practical side of running a project
and you will be responsible for the marketing and business side
of a real performance. There will be an emphasis on personal research
and practical activities, although some written work is required.

of study include:
Jobs
in the Performing Arts, funding, audience profiles, running a box
office, marketing techniques.

Performing
Plays |
|
This
unit is about the rehearsing and performing of play scripts. You
will learn how to interpret and develop a role and will act as
assistant director. You will also have the chance to take part
in 2 performances before an audience.
Areas
of study include:
Character
research, speech, costume, props, learning lines, time management,
communication skills and performance nerves. |
